Digital Dental Radiography

Digital Dental Radiography

Dental radiographs are one of the most important diagnostic tools available in veterinary dentistry and are essential in making an accurate diagnosis.  The digital dental x-rays allow us to view the internal anatomy of your pet’s teeth.

It is common for a patient with a specific concern, or in for their regular annual dental cleaning, to have additional oral problems.  These additional problems may only become apparent if full-mouth radiographs are taken. Another benefit of full-mouth radiographs is that they also establish a base-line for future comparison. Once we have our diagnosis we can then have a better understanding of the prognosis enabling us to make a treatment plan specific to your pet’s needs.

Did you know that two thirds of our dog’s and cat’s teeth are under the gingiva (gums)?  Dental radiographs assist us by revealing:

  • Fractures
  • Periodontal Disease
  • Stomatitis
  • Cysts
  • Tumors
  • Joint Issues
  • Jaw Issues
  • Foreign Objects

For young patients dental x-rays help us to determine any abnormalities, missing, non-vital, and vital teeth. The radiation risk from taking dental radiographs is minimal and is outweighed by the numerous benefits.
